Janice Ferebee, MSW, a native New Yorker now living in Washington, DC, is an internationally recognized speaker, author, global female empowerment expert, and former DC elected official, with a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2). She is the founder & Chief Woman Warrior (CWW) of Ferebee Enterprises International, LLC, a global female empowerment social enterprise. With over 40 years' expertise, Janice, the first African American Models Editor for Seventeen Magazine, has the proud distinction of being featured on Oprah and recognized by ESSENCE Magazine, for her award-winning GOT IT GOIN' ON® (GIGO) empowerment brand and program for girls of color. She is a Stage 2B fallopian tube cancer survivor blessed with 30 years in long-term recovery from drug and alcohol use. She has turned her unique personal and professional life experiences into tools to help educators, parents, practitioners and leaders of girl-serving organizations, to empower girls of color to build confidence and cultural pride, and develop personal action plans for their lives; AND women of color, to find their voices and create blueprints for their lives.

She is a docent at the historic Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC), and proud legacy member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA)-- following in the footsteps of her mother, Elizabeth Grant Ferebee, a community activist and special education professional; and great-aunt, Dr. Dorothy Boulding Ferebee, pioneering Black physician, civil rights and social justice activist, international humanitarian, 2nd National President of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), and 10th International President of AKA Sorority – featured in the NMAAHC.  Find out more about Janice at www.janiceferebee.com.
